Legitimacy of Dolphin Safe Label Gutted and Filleted by the WTO. Bon Appétit!

On Friday, the WTO issued their final decision in the long running trade dispute between Mexico and the United States regarding the use of dolphin-safe labels in the U.S. marketplace. The Appellate Body, the final word on this case, has agreed with Mexico’s claims that the United States has failed for years to comply with the 2011 ruling of the Appellate Body.

This victory for Mexico proves that measurable harm has occurred and once and for all that the so-called “dolphin-safe” label in the United States is a fraud. Read the press release below for all the details.

Raise Your Voice Against NMFS’ Proposed Regulations Before November 9th!

On August 11, the National Marine Fisheries Service published proposed regulations that purported to finally implement import provisions of the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA). Sadly, for 43 years (!) little has been done to enforce the MMPA and now, the proposed regulations NMFS has proposed fall far short of what is needed to truly protect all marine mammals.  Continue reading >
