WTO Rules the U.S. Must Put the SAFE Back into Dolphin Safe

Leading Scientists Challenge U.S. Claims of “Unobserved” Mortality Impacts on Dolphin Populations

For years, in an effort to divert attention from the deceptive and illegal nature of its so-called “dolphin-safe” labeling scheme, the United States and certain animal rights groups directly profiting from the perpetuation of that scheme have claimed that unobserved mortality, reproductive effects and mother-calf separation in the Eastern Tropical Pacific (ETP) tuna fishery were having adverse effects on the recovery of the ETP dolphin stocks. These claims have once again been soundly challenged in a recent scientific analysis prepared for the U.S. Secretary of Commerce by the scientists at the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC).  Continue reading >
